South Essex College is seeking a talented and passionate Art Lecturer to join our thriving Creative and Performing Arts Department, which has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality education and achieving excellent outcomes. Based at our Southend Campus, our department offers a diverse range of creative courses, including Fine Art, Illustration, 3D Design, Graphics, Photography, and Fashion. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach a variety of modules and subjects within the Art and Design field, ensuring that students receive a comprehensive, inspiring, and engaging learning experience. You will be responsible for designing and delivering lessons, workshops, and assessments that meet the needs of students at different levels of study, ensuring they develop both practical and theoretical skills. Additionally, you will be expected to create a stimulating and supportive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning. Alongside your teaching duties, you will take on course leadership responsibilities. This includes overseeing the planning, development, and assessment of student work, managing course documentation, and ensuring the course delivery aligns with the curriculum. You will also track and monitor student attendance and progress, setting clear targets and providing timely feedback to help students achieve their potential. A key part of this role will involve maintaining high levels of student engagement and supporting their academic journey. As a course leader, you will be responsible for managing the student journey from induction to progression, supporting learners in reaching their potential and successfully completing their course. We are looking for candidates with a degree in Art and Design or a related field (or equivalent qualification), along with significant teaching experience in a further education environment, ideally within Art and Design. You should possess a strong knowledge and passion for various Art and Design disciplines, including Fine Art, Illustration, 3D Design, Graphics, Photography, and Fashion, and have experience teaching across a range of levels, from Level 1 to Level 4. Excellent organisational and administrative skills are essential, as you will be managing course documentation, tracking student progress, and meeting deadlines. We also require a commitment to high-quality teaching and learning, with the ability to inspire and motivate students. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are vital, as you will need to build positive relationships with students and colleagues, as well as collaborate effectively with other teaching staff to enhance the curriculum. Experience with digital platforms and learning management systems to support teaching and learning is desirable, as is knowledge of industry-standard software, such as Adobe Creative Suite. A teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, Cert Ed) or a commitment to working towards one is also preferred, along with experience in course leadership and managing teams of staff within a curriculum area. For those who do not currently hold a teaching qualification, you will need minimum level 3 qualification in your subject specialism plus Maths and English at level 2 before embarking on a Cert Ed level 5 or PGCE level 6. For the successful candidate, the College can fund these in house qualifications.
