London’s Community Kitchen Academy (LCKA)
LCKA provides students with Higher National Diplomas (HND) in Business and in partnership with University of Portsmouth. LCKA courses provide students with a flexible pathway to the final year of a university degree. They also help students build the confidence they for gainful employment, job promotion or to start their own enterprises. The LCKA ethos is zero self-doubt, zero hardship.
The Role
The Lecturer in Business (HND) will report to the Head of Programme and will be responsible for the planning, preparation and delivery of units for our Pearson BTEC HND courses. These are currently delivered in person and online, although this could change in future in line with the requirements of the awarding body (Pearson) and our partner, University of Portsmouth.
You will manage the delivery of teaching and learning to adult learners, ensuring appropriate planning, feedback, support and fairness, conforming with assessment and administrative requirements and reporting procedures. You will be required to collaborate with the LCKA team and may be required to liaise with staff members at our partner institution (University of Portsmouth). High professional standards will always be required.
Main duties
- Plan, deliver and report on your unit, using methods and materials appropriate to the students and unit/course content.
- Prepare appropriate teaching materials.
- Identify the needs of students and adapt delivery styles to meet these needs.
- Comply and promote LCKA’s policy on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy
- Evaluate the effectiveness of learning and assess students’ progress
- In line with LCKA standards and processes, give students timely and developmental feedback on formative and summative submissions.
- Carry our internal verification of assignment briefs and assessments as required.
- Ensure that all required paperwork, including student reports and feedback reports on unit assignments are submitted by the deadline.
- Attend relevant induction and tutor training meetings as required by LCKA and our Partner, Strode College.
- Lead on units and liaise with other Lecturers teaching on the same unit ensuring all unit materials are up to date.
- Maintain up to date information for students on the virtual learning platform.
- Reflect upon and implement recommended action from feedback received through unit evaluations, staff appraisals, lesson observations, annual monitoring reviews and external examiner reports
- Familiarise yourself with and implement the LCKA learning teaching and assessment strategy, and all policies and procedures relating to learning, teaching and assessment.
- Attend meetings as and when required.
- Engage with continuous professional development including attendance and participation in workshops as and when required.
Additional Duties (as and when required)
- Liaising
- Support the admissions team by carrying out academic interviews where required.
- Undertake Personal Tutoring duties to support
- Provide academic support and academic advice to students where required.
- Work in the evenings if required.
- Help with general course administration
Essential Criteria
- Master’s Degree in relevant subject area and other relevant professional qualifications
- Teaching qualification (PGCE / PGCHE) and membership of Advanced HE (Formerly HEA) or willing to work towards these within 12 months of appointment
- Experience teaching students at this level in the relevant subject area
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Available and willing to work weekends.
Desirable Criteria
- PhD or equivalent level 8 qualification
- Other industry-related professional accreditations/certifications/memberships.
