Skills, Education & Employment Lead on our
Lower Thames Crossing project and you’ll deliver complex work that really matters to our business, and the world around you!
The purpose of the SEE Lead is to drive initiatives that enhance workforce capabilities, promote education partnerships, and create employment opportunities within the LTC Program.
This role will entail a mix of being in the project offices alongside visiting local Schools/Colleges/Employment agencies. Working hybrid of 3 days office and 2 days home.
What you'll be doing
- Formulate and execute a comprehensive skills and education strategy aligned with the project and businesses goals.
- Working with the Social Impact team to ensure Skills KPIs are reported in a timely manner.
- Identify emerging skill requirements and trends within the project.
- Lead on Early Careers Recruiting, Inductions and Development for Roads North. Align with the delivery partner Early Careers teams to ensure a collaborative recruitment approach.
- Work with Enterprise Partners and Supply Chain to ensure SEE requirements are being delivered at all levels.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to integrate education and skills development into the broader business/project strategy.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with educational institutions, community groups, apprenticeship providers, and industry bodies.
- Lead outreach programmes to attract diverse talent and promote the industry.
- Represent the company/project at industry events, career fairs, and educational forums.
- Design and oversee apprenticeship, intern, and graduate programs continuous professional development (CPD) schemes for existing employees
- Foster relationships with local communities to create employment and training opportunities.
- Promote diversity and inclusion within all educational and employment initiatives.
- Develop and support community-based educational projects that highlight career opportunities in civil engineering.
- Provide guidance to project teams on skills and education-related matters.
- Support the recruitment team in sourcing and attracting candidates with the right skills.
- Create resources and frameworks to support coaching, mentoring, and career development
- Align with the LTC team to ensure we design and deliver best in class skills hubs and contribute to wider Balfour Beatty best practice.
- Ensure the project is supporting all community groups including prison leavers, armed forces veterans and long term unemployed.
- Maximise local employment opportunities by working with the HR team to forecast key vacancies with local people.
Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are essential:
- Proven experience in a SEE or Social Impact role.
- Experience in L&D programmes for Early Careers graduates, apprentices, school leavers
- Have a solid understanding of national policy and trends particularly focussed in the SEE arena.
- Solid understanding of the socio-economic environment in the region.
- Able to develop SEE Interventions
- Experience of working in a complex multi- contracted diverse culture
- Proven achievements of design, delivery and evaluation of a full range of learning portfolio (including blended learning), encompassing customer service, technical, process and management and leadership development
- Proven experience of building effective working relationships up to and including director level
- High level of cultural awareness / sensitivity towards employees and customers and proficiency in assessing customer needs
- Able to analyse situations carefully and make rational judgements and logical decisions
