About us
IOE is UCL Faculty of Education and Society.
Founded in 1902, IOE has been shaping policy and helping government, organisations and individuals navigate a changing society for the last 120 years. We embrace collaboration and excellence to create a future that is inclusive and just, and have been ranked number one for education every year since 2014 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
The department of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment is a world-leading centre for economics, geography, business, mathematics, science and humanities education. A core strength of the Department is in the study, support and improvement of pedagogy, curriculum and assessment through multidisciplinary programmes. The Department hosts top-rated initial teacher education programmes, incorporating Secondary PGCE, innovative Masters programmes and a wide range of continuing professional development courses.
About the role
The Mathematics Education team within CPA contributes to a well-established and popular Master’s course in Mathematics Education, to a range of Initial Teacher Education routes, including Secondary PGCE and School Direct and the Secondary Mathematics Teacher Degree Apprenticeship (TDA). The Department also has a strong group of doctoral students.
We are looking to appoint a Lecturer (Grade 8; £52,762 to £62,035 per annum, inclusive of £4,613 per annum London Allowance). The successful candidate will become part of the mathematics education team, commencing in September 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter). You are expected to engage in relevant teaching and supervision of student teachers, including teaching and supervision of master’s level academic assignments. You will be encouraged to collaborate and develop a productive connection across relevant areas of mathematics within the Department and with other Departments of the Institute. In addition, you will be at the forefront of national developments in learning and teaching methodologies in the classroom and contribute to research projects in mathematics education.
We will consider appointing a suitably experienced candidate as Associate Professor (Grade 9, Salary: £67,341 - £73,142, inclusive of £4,613 per annum London Allowance). In addition to the above, the post requires that you can provide leadership within the department, including mentoring and line management.
Employment is dependent on successful DBS check.
If you would like to find out more about the post, or if you have any questions, please contact Professor Eirini Geraniou, e-mail: e.geraniou@ucl.ac.uk
