Entry Requirements
A minimum of 2 GCSE’s Grade 4 (C) and above including Maths and English Language (or equivalents).
You are not eligible for this scheme if you currently hold or are working towards a qualification at the same or higher level in a related subject or have already studied content from the qualification for this scheme.
You must be 18 years of age by 8 th September 2025 to be eligible for this scheme.
Please be advised that should you be successful in getting an offer for this apprenticeship scheme, your offer will be subject to a satisfactory medical which may include but is not limited to: drugs and alcohol screening, hearing test and eyesight tests including Ishihara Plates and Colour Assessment and Diagnosis tests to determine colour deficiency.Proposed Start Date

Job Overview
Our maintenance team focus on the assets that form the foundation of our transport system. The role of a TfL RfLI Elizabeth Line Rail Engineering apprentice is critical in ensuring the ongoing performance, maintenance and safety of TfL RfLI Elizabeth line, its stations, and assets. You will be responsible for maintaining and ensuring our assets are operating at peak performance in order to carry an estimated 200 million passengers per year.
What will I be doing?
Your three-year development programme will be made up of various placements. The first year will expose you to the various teams across TfL RfLI Elizabeth Line Maintenance team including planning, health & safety, and Engineering.You will also complete rostered placements across the following disciplines: Permanent Way Track, Telecoms, Electrification & Signalling working alongside our technicians. For the 2 nd & 3 rd year you will be aligned to a specific discipline, expanding on your knowledge & understanding.
You will work with a team of qualified and licensed engineers & technicians, who will provide oversight and guidance throughout your Programme, teach you the skills required for the role and most of all, share their extensive knowledge and experience. The work will be split between practical work (competence) and theory (knowledge) throughout the Programme, and you'll be expected to produce a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your growing competence and understanding. Where can this career take me?
Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship, you could roll-off into the Elizabeth Line maintenance team which could lead to further career development opportunities such assupervisory roles, project management, site management, surveying and site engineering. The skills, knowledge and experience developed during your time on the programme will open a range of opportunities within engineering.
What training and support will you get?
You will be working towards aLevel 3qualification inRail Engineering
- Electrification pathway.
Typically, you will be required to attend a London based college for 3–5-week blocks over the learning year.
Whilst on the scheme, we’ll support your technical development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences and placements.We’ll also support your professional development through a combination of classroom-led training courses, online training courses, mentoring opportunities, and structured networking opportunities. You will receive one-to-one support throughout the programme from your scheme sponsor and your Line Manager. You’ll also be connected to a ‘buddy’ who will be an ex- apprentice.
Assessment ProcessYou will receive support and information around each assessment stage as you progress through your application.

Please pay close attention to emails and deadlines provided noting you have 1 week to complete assessments and we cannot re-issue these tests.
Assessment centres for apprenticeship roles will take place from February-April, please note that many roles only have 1 assessment day and we are unable to guarantee additional dates. We are conducting assessment centres in person and virtually (role dependent).
