The Departments of Civil Engineering and Environmental Management (CEEM) and Construction and Surveying (CAS), within the School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment, represent a dynamic and vibrant collegiate academic community with a strong track record in applied research, innovative teaching, and knowledge transfer activities. Collectively, the two departments encompass the academic areas of Building Surveying, Building Services Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Civil Engineering, Environmental Management and Quantity Surveying. The departments bring together a highly motivated and exciting team of over 40 academic staff with skills and expertise in the development and delivery of industrially relevant undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of study across which we have approximately 1700 students enrolled.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational lecturer to contribute to the continued growth of the two departments. The primary purpose of this appointment is to play a leading role in the learning and teaching and research, and the management of selected modules within our undergraduate, postgraduate and Graduate Apprenticeship programmes.
The candidate should demonstrate appropriate expertise and the ability to teach a wide range of disciplinary-relevant subjects including, but not limited to, Digital Construction/Engineering. The candidate should have substantial expertise in professional practice, evidencing the skill set required in the area of digital construction/engineering and/or a track record in relevant areas of research, and ideally, will have extensive experience of using relevant software. Additionally, the candidate will expand our external collaboration networks for both research and teaching (contributing to the growth and development of our research, consultancy, and knowledge transfer activities), contribute to new and enhanced curricula and taught provision in areas relevant to the above programmes, and inspire current and future students via both teaching and supervision activities. We are seeking individuals who have a passion and enthusiasm to deliver innovations in learning and teaching and to develop research and knowledge exchange opportunities. Individuals will be expected to explore novel and emerging areas of construction and deliver excellent quality teaching.
Candidates for this post should be educated to at least MSc level, or possess a bachelor’s degree with relevant industry experience. Experience in relevant industry sectors will be highly regarded and Professional membership is highly valued. We seek both practitioners and academics with a good working knowledge related to our accrediting Professional Bodies (APM, CABE, CIBSE, CICES, CIOB, JBM, RICS).
We welcome enthusiastic individuals who may be new to academia but are passionate about construction and engineering and eager to pass knowledge on to the next generation of graduates. If you have excelled in industry or have recently completed your education and would like to progress to that next step in your development within an academic environment, then this role is for you.
