Who we are:
As a part of Warsash Maritime School (Southampton Solent University), Safety Training provides commercial education, training and consultancy services to the international maritime and offshore industries. We are based at the Warsash Campus (SO31 9ZL) and train students from cadet to Master level, including professional yachtsmen, in the 4 Safety Training portfolio areas:
- Fire Fighting
- Maritime (Survival craft, Sea survival and Fast Rescue Boat),
- Medical (first aid and medical care)
- Offshore (including Helicopter Underwater Escape training (HUET)
Our Vacancy:
We have a vacancy for an Associate Lecturer in Medical and First Aid to teach STCW short medical courses ranging predominantly from 1-day Elementary First Aid to 4-day Proficiency in Medical First Aid at our Warsash Campus.
Our Medical and First Aid Associate Lecturer (EFA and MFA):
- Delivers the medical portfolio courses and assists in the creation of innovative and interactive teaching programmes for this area
- Teaches medical theory and practical sessions in class on a flexible basis as the scheduled timetable requires
- Delivers staff first aid training to Safety Training and other University colleagues
- Liaises with the Medical Course Manager
- Assists with maintenance of all medical equipment on site
The successful candidate:
You don’t have to be an experienced maritime medical lecturer/instructor (although it certainly helps if you are!) – first and foremost we are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated medical professional with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to join our team. Very occasionally unsocial hours and UK/international travel may be required as we periodically undertake consultancy work away from our Warsash campus base.

- If shortlisted, interviews will be conducted on Wednesday 15th January 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be required to present a 10min presentation entitled:
- The challenges of healthcare provision at sea.
- And be able to answer any questions from the interview panel regarding the presentation.
