About
I have over 20 years’ experience of teaching academic literacy development in UK HE institutions to levels 3-7 as well as Foundation pathway programmes. I am also a highly experienced course designer on a wide variety of courses both in face to face and in online capacities.
I have taught students from all over the world, from a range of backgrounds and across the disciplines. As well as teaching in UK universities, I have also had experience of developing course syllabi for 3 different Chinese universities in partnership with UK institutions in the fields of biomedicine and business management.
I have experience of teaching very large groups of international students simultaneously as well as small groups and 1-1 sessions teaching with either multilingual and monolingual groups either across disciplines or discipline specific groups, depending on the specific programme. I am highly flexible and adaptable, being used to a variety of classroom situations and being able to exploit the resources on offer.
I have taught on year-long programmes as well as shorter pre sessional summer programmes, on in-sessional courses for international students as well as workshops and study skills short courses aimed at all students including home students.
I am first and foremost a student-centred educator with an excellent understanding of pedagogy both online and face to face and I am familiar with UK HE commonly used LMSs such as Moodle, Canvas and Blackboard both as online course providers. I have regularly used the video conferencing tool Collaborate as well as Zoom. I have used a number of 3rd party technological tools such as Voicethread, Padlet, Quizlet and Mentimetre for several years in my own teaching and I regularly use H5P tools.
