About
After many years in in the furniture industry I am now looking to have a career change into education. I am a practising woodworker and upholsterer and have expertise in managing artisans and production in a professional wood and upholstery workshop. I'm also experienced in working in an educational setting, in a previous role working as a Design and Technology Technician in a secondary school. Through having worked in these types of roles before I can demonstrate I have an extensive practical skillset to bring to the job whilst having comprehensive experience and knowledge of implementing health and safety procedures from workshops to classrooms, whilst having a thorough understanding of how integral inclusivity, equality and diversity is to both an educational and professional setting.
I am used to working with and training colleagues at work with varying levels of skills, working very closely honing down people’s skills. Over the years I have learnt the importance of building up meaningful and positive relationships with people in order to provide a thorough and dedicated learning experience.
Working at the school I would the helping the students from end to end problem solve their projects and working closely with teacher colleagues to help fulfil lesson plans with tools and aids they needed. We were collectively moving and working towards the same goals with students that had very different projects on the go. I am very used to being busy and flipping between projects and students treating everyone the same but moulding my support and teaching style differently to each student. This goes the same with teachers, each teacher had a different way of teaching and I would have to adapt to that accordingly.
Working with a few teams in very different workshops in my current role here in London as well as Sweden on a variety of projects. We lean on our counter parts in Sweden as some processes we can't do on our own in London due to the volume we can make is limited because of time, space and skills. We work collectively well because we share the same objective which is creating well-made, high quality products. I have been given the opportunity to learn priceless practical skills from people that have been in the industry for years from working in collaboration. I feel these are enriching and strong skills to bring into an educational environment. Whilst I am not looking for a managerial position, the skills I have gained in a professional workshop transfer well into educational.
Learning, sharing my skills and being part of a team has simultaneously always been at the forefront of my work. I have strived in opportunities that I have worked hard for and in turn have created environments for my colleagues and students to thrive in. Through having worked in the industry I have a plethora of skills, innovative solutions and techniques' to share. I endeavour to bring my sunny disposition, graft and can do attitude along with it.
I am looking for a job within education, as in my current job I have squeezed every inch of learning out of the role. I want to be challenged with new skills and experiences soaking up as much I can, to in turn share and be part of a team pushing forward a professional learning experience. I am confident in an educational environment, as teaching has always being a low level hum in the job roles I've have taken on in my career. I feel working in an educational environment suits my skillset and also aligns with where I want to to take my career next.
Outside of work I'm a carbooting, second hand shop lover and collector of vintage Tuppaware, living on small narrowboat (full of DIY projects) with no space or storage!
I really hope you consider me for the role as it sounds like such an exciting environment to be working in as well as be a stepping stone into education.
