The Glasgow School for Business and Society (GSBS) integrates business studies, law and social sciences, and its teaching, research and public engagement activities are underpinned by commitments to global citizenship, responsible leadership, entrepreneurship and social justice. Our research addresses the challenge of inclusive societies, focusing on themes of social justice, equalities and communities, and social innovation and public policy.
The Department of Social Sciences is a dynamic and innovative multidisciplinary group (of criminologists, historians, political scientists and sociologists), committed to research and teaching excellence, public engagement, and community empowerment. Our learning, teaching, research, and community engagement are all informed and underpinned by our commitment to the Common Good. The Department hosts three interdisciplinary research groups: The Scottish Poverty and Inequality Research Unit (SPIRU), The Gender Research and Equalities Network (GREeN), and The Social, Criminal and Legal Justice Research Group (SCaLe).
We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Criminology and Sociology to deliver teaching and learning in these disciplines, to undertake research and publish in high quality journals, and to develop the profile of the Department and related programmes both nationally and internationally. The successful candidate will become a member of a team contributing to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision across the Social Sciences. A key responsibility of this post holder will be to lead the development of a new masters’ programme in the area of global security, drawing on the expertise of colleagues across the department and in related areas.
We are looking for an individual with a PhD (or near completion/equivalent) in a relevant discipline with experience of teaching and supervising in criminology/sociology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You should also have experience of module and teaching administration and research expertise in a relevant specialism. We expect that candidates will also have experience in relation to inclusive learning and disability.
