ABOUT THE ROLE
The Skills Advisor will maintain ongoing knowledge of the relevant changes within the skills agenda for the sector(s) served by BESA. The Skills Advisor will co-ordinate and deliver skills and career and funding advice for all existing and new entrants, including apprenticeships information for prospective apprentices, current employees and employers within the sector. The job holder will also be responsible for the development and presentation of skills and apprenticeships information published on BESA online channels. Identifying and signposting for relevant, available funding for all qualifications and training across all nations. The Skills Advisor will also assist in the development and deployment of apprenticeship attraction strategies which may involve travel across the UK.
Key Duties- Continuously track apprenticeships and funding developments across all four UK nations to ensure information provided is accurate : Take ownership of maintaining accurate, up-to-date information and ensure measurable outcomes from apprenticeship initiatives.
- Be familiar with the types of qualifications available; Apprenticeships, NVQs, Experienced Worker Units, short course provisions and skills related solutions : Provide tailored advice and support, demonstrating care for the development of apprentices and employers.
- Assist the Skills Policy Manager by ensuring that the Competence and Compliance Team are kept up to date with key sector developments on an ongoing basis : Adapt to changes quickly, ensuring internal teams are always informed of the latest sector developments.
- Respond to skills and apprenticeships enquiries promptly, researching areas as required in order to provide an informed, professional response : Show customer empathy by offering clear, personalised responses that address specific stakeholder needs.
- As directed by the Skills Policy Manager, participate in webinars, campaigns (such as National Apprentice Weeks across all four nations), and at group or member meetings where apprenticeships and skills are key agenda items : Demonstrate agility by participating in time-sensitive events and ensuring BESA’s presence aligns with sector priorities.
- Be part of the expert team that supports all BESA departments on skills and training questions : Collaborate with internal teams, offering expertise and ensuring alignment with broader organisational goals.
- Skills Advisory Calls & Emails, including proactively approaching employers as part of any attraction campaign : Proactively reach out to employers, demonstrating empathy by understanding and responding to their recruitment and training needs.
- Maintain an up-to-date schedule of available training providers and seek to increase this as part of an evolving attraction strategy : Drive continuous improvement by expanding and refining BESA’s training provider network for better support.
- Ensure all enquiries and responses are logged and produce reports as required : Track progress and improve service delivery through detailed reporting and effective logging of enquiries.
- Manage projects related to skills, training and recruitment of new talent in the Building Engineering Services sector and report on measurable impact to internal and external stakeholders : Support commercial goals by ensuring projects deliver tangible outcomes and contribute to the sector’s growth.
- ADHOC Duties as required : Demonstrate agility and flexibility by taking on additional tasks as needed to meet organisational priorities.
ABOUT YOU Skills & Knowledge - Essential - Experience in the Apprenticeships and funding landscapes : Keeping up-to-date with sector changes to provide accurate, relevant information.
- Excellent communication skills; face to face, written, verbal : Adapting communication to engage effectively with different stakeholders.
- Solid organisational skills across multiple tasks : Managing and prioritising tasks to respond to dynamic needs efficiently.
- High attention to detail : Ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks for consistent, high-quality outcomes.
- Ability to adapt personal style to suit the circumstances and a variety of audiences : Tailoring communication to meet diverse stakeholder needs and drive positive outcomes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teams : Working effectively with others to achieve shared goals and maintain service standards.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office : Enhance efficiency, track progress, and communicate effectively.
Skills & Knowledge – Desirable
- Knowledge of the building and engineering services industry
- Knowledge of the skills and education landscape required by the sector
- Pro-active in constant development of the service
