Join us as an apprentice, and help be the energy behind the change.
Here at National Gas, we are at the forefront of the UK's move towards sustainable energy and achieving our Net Zero goals by 2050. Whilst our teams work behind the scenes to develop the future of our energy systems, you’ll be out with our engineers in the field delivering the natural gas demands of today.
What You’ll Be Doing
A degree apprenticeship is a brilliant option if you’re looking to gain a degree whilst hitting the ground running in the world of work. You’ll kick-start your career blending academic study with work-based learning. You'll split your time between learning out on site, working alongside experts solving real-world problems, and attending dedicated training and university days.
You’ll join the National Gas Transmission Ops team and spend a large majority of your time at our site in Evesham. It’s an exciting time to join the team, who’re operating a brand-new unit in the area, various projects and new control systems. These teams maintain pipelines, terminals and compressors to ensure the safe, secure and reliable operation of the gas network. The gas network that keeps our homes warm and our lights on. Travel will be frequent, so being able to drive is essential.
You’ll develop high-level project management knowledge, capabilities and skills (both human and technical) that will enable you to work within a project team. You’ll be responsible for overseeing projects here at National Gas. We’ll prepare you to strategically, and financially, manage small or large-scale projects and deliver projects that meet their targets. By the end of the degree, you’ll be highly skilled at understanding the needs of your stakeholders and developing relationships whilst demonstrating strong, ethical practice.
You’ll learn:
- Principles of Project Management
- Operations management
- Financial management
- Marketing
- Communication for business leaders
- Leadership and change management
- Business project management & advanced project management
- Governance and quality assurance
- Project proposal
We’ll work closely with your university to review your progress at regular intervals, providing feedback and guiding your development. You’ll have a tailored personalised plan that ensures you have appropriate support and training. Most of your learning will be on the job, with off-the-job training and one-to-one tutoring. Your apprenticeship will end with the completion of a dissertation and an End Point Assessment.
About You
You’ll be someone who’s a brilliant communicator, and able to build relationships with people of all backgrounds and levels across the business. You’ll be organised and will enjoy being in the office or on site, learning from skilled professionals. There is very little work from home in this role, aside from study days, as you’ll be out in the field impacting projects and getting that hands-on experience.
This apprenticeship is perfect if you’re naturally curious, excited to think of new ideas whilst challenge existing ones. You’ll take pride in your work, be proactive and thrive on ‘getting stuck in’.
You’ll need:
- Three A Levels at CCC or above (or predicted), or equivalent BTECs.
- Have a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above including Mathematics and English.
- A cover letter is essential to help us understand why you're a great fit for the role. Check out our guidance below!
- Our sites are located across the UK & Ireland, so you’ll need to be comfortable with travel and overnight stays.
- Travel will become an exciting part of your day-to-day life on the job, so being able to drive is essential. This means you’ll have a licence before joining us on September 1st 2025.
- You'll need to have permanent right to work in the UK for the entirety of this programme, as we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
Studies suggest that women tend to apply only if they meet 100% of the criteria. If you resonate with our mission, the role excites you and your skills align, we encourage you to apply.
What should you include in your cover letter?
A cover letter is a chance for us to get to know you as a person – we understand you may not have workplace experience yet, and that’s absolutely fine! Let us know about your personal qualities and interests. Your cover letter should be no more than one A4 page. Make sure it includes:
- Why you’re interested in working at National Gas
- What personal skills and qualities you have that would make you a great apprentice
- Why you want to become a Project Management Degree Apprentice
