Are you enthused by research design and statistical analysis? Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer in Research Methods to develop and teach on our module this Summer term 2025.
As an Associate Lecturer you would teach the module:
- Research Methods in Practice, Level 4
- 39 hours of teaching
- Teaching Tuesday afternoons 2-5pm and/or evenings 6-9pm, April-July, plus various Saturday sessions (12-2pm).
Your role will be to deliver teaching to Birkbeck students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully, and to undertake all related course administrative duties as required.
Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of the Research Methods in Practice module. This is a Level 4 module offered as part of our including ethical considerations and the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. The module will build on students understanding of research design and understanding of data collection and statistical analysis.
As an Associate Lecturer, you will be working closely with the programme director to organise, deliver and assess the module.
In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack, the minimum requirements for selection are:
- a degree in Psychology
- relevant teaching experience, working with adult students within the HE sector.
- good understanding of the needs of part-time adult learners and be able to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm.
- experience of (or willingness to develop) a wide range of teaching and assessment methods.
- demonstrably effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills across a range of relevant contexts.
The successful candidate will be required to teach all sessions on the module.

Remuneration:
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £68.13 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
Contract:
