This is a fantastic opportunity to join a passionate and forward-thinking travel training team. We are seeking a reliable, flexible and committed Travel Trainer to support young people and adults with disabilities or learning difficulties to learn specific routes on public transport and/or as a pedestrian, to and from their school/college/work placement/day opportunity.
The Travel Training Program is specifically designed to meet each trainee’s individual needs and ultimately facilitate a trainee’s choice and independence. This role is to encourage and empower trainees to learn the skills necessary to be able to travel independently safely, confidently and competently. You must be committed to empowering people to live their life to the full and raising expectations and ambitions of people with disabilities and difficulties.
Key requirements
- Applicants should have at least 1 year’s recent experience of working with young people or adults with disabilities or learning difficulties, youth work/young offenders or care environment.
- You will be working on a one-to-one basis focusing on an individual’s travelling needs and overall skills for independence. This will include providing practical guidance on pedestrian skills, all aspects of using public transport and dealing with difficult situations that arise when travelling.
- You will be required to travel within and out of the Sandwell Borough using various modes of public transport with trainees.
- Full training is given, and you will be expected to work towards a nationally recognised qualification.
- Our work is dictated by the needs of our trainee’s and our service therefore you will be required to work flexibly, sometimes at short notice and occasionally outside of traditional office hours.
- Enhanced DBS with Childrens and Adults barring check is required.

Educated to Functional Skills level two or GCSE level 4 in English and Maths
