Overview
Piran Composites are an advanced carbon fibre manufacturing company producing high specification components and structures for aerospace and defence OEMs. We are seeking eight composite apprentices to undertake a variety of tasks within the production environment. Training will be provided onsite at Piran for 80% of the week with the other 20% by the college & our team. This apprenticeship is designed to open new opportunities here in Cornwall in an exciting and niche industry. We as a business manufacture & develop some of the most exciting composite aerospace projects in the UK, so if you want to kick start your new career earning and learning, this is the role for you.
Training
You will receive full training to the curriculum, which is designed with Piran Composites in mind. The units cover everything from basic engineering to advanced pre-preg manufacture of aerospace components. Area's such as CAD & Engineering Mathematics to name a few, will be supported by us and the college. Completion of this Apprenticeship awards you a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Composites Engineering. Some examples of the tasks you will be performing below:
· Cutting and kitting of carbon fibre raw material
· Laying up on carbon fibre materials into mould tools
· Releasing of carbon composite components from moulds
· Cleaning/sealing/applying release agents to mould tools
· General cleaning and tidying of the work areas
· Maintaining and completing relevant engineering paperwork
· Aid various production departments with tasks such as manual lifting and fitting, gluing, machine maintenance, packaging and documentation
· Correct usage of advanced machinery - press, autoclave, kit cutter, CNC machine to name a few
· You may be required to work early shift or late shift. 0600-1430 /0800-1630 / 1400-2230

To succeed in this role, you will require good communication skills, ability to learn quickly and apply knowledge in correct methods, be a team player, good time keeping and be able to work under pressure but also in a relaxed environment. Experience and skill operating computers and MS office a plus. This is a good opportunity for someone to come in and integrate themselves into the team environment. Key Eligibility Criteria:
- Entry requirements for the apprenticeship will be Grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent qualifications).
- Apprentice candidates must be aged 16 years old or over.
- Apprentice candidates must have lived in the UK or EEA for the last 3 years up to the start date of their course (which will be November 2025).
- Apprentice candidates must not already be enrolled on another apprenticeship or currently in any other form of full-time education.
- Apprentice candidates must not have a degree level qualification or higher in a related subject.
Duration: Full-time, 3 Year Apprenticeship with opportunity for full time permanent.
Pay: £9 per hour based on Monday to Friday.
Ability to commute/relocate: Wadebridge, PL27 7SE/Terminal 11, Spaceport Cornwall: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required).

There will be a Recruitment Event on Tuesday 29th of April from 4pm – 7pm at the STEM and Health Skills Centre, Ottery Building Old Callywith Road, Bodmin, PL31 2GU.

There will be a talk by Piran followed by a tour of the facilities and a chance to ask questions and talk to the current apprentices. The first talk will be at 4:30pm and second opportunity to attend a talk at 6pm.
