• Occupational Therapy
The School of Healthcare Sciences provides a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate education that directly improves health outcomes and healthcare for patients and families. This includes courses and research in Clinical Photography; Diagnostic Radiography, Midwifery; Nursing (Adult, Child and Mental Health); Occupational Therapy; Physiotherapy; and Radiotherapy and Oncology.

Candidates should have a high level of current professional expertise and/or high quality practice based publications, a passion for student focussed innovative teaching and possess or be working towards a relevant masters or doctoral level degree. The successful candidate will be employed on the Cardiff University Teaching and Scholarship or Teaching and Research career pathway. Candidates must have current registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). An enhanced declaration of criminal records will be requested.
Candidates appointed at Grade 6 will be required, as part of their probation to participate in the Cardiff University Education and Fellowship Programme which will give you with accreditation as a Higher Education Academy Fellow on completion of the programme.

This position is full-time (35 hours per week) and open-ended.
Salary:
£40,247 - £45,163 per annum (Grade 6) or £50,694 - £55,295 per annum (Grade 7). Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.

Contribute to the facilitation of learning and scholarship activities within the profession of occupational therapy, including the development, delivery, assessment and evaluation of modules/programmes for the occupational therapy programme within the undergraduate and post qualification provision within the School. Offer support to students via the personal tutee system, supervise students’ research projects and to carry out administrative duties within the work area as required. To pursue excellence in teaching and scholarship/research and to inspire others to do the same.MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching- Design and deliver teaching programmes for courses and contribute to module development as part of a module team
Grade 7: independently contribute to module and course development and lead modules- Inspire undergraduate and postgraduate students under the guidance of a mentor / module leader and develop skills in assessment methods and in providing constructive feedback to students.
- Supervise the work of students including the supervision of undergraduate and master’s students
Grade 7: Acts as an independent supervisor and assessor of academic work.- Supply pastoral care through both acting as a Personal Tutor and providing support and guidance to students, building and establishing trust
Scholarship (for the Teaching and Scholarship post)- Contribute to scholarship in the area of work through participation in conferences, seminars and other academic and professional forums to disseminate the results of individual scholarship
- Engage in scholarly activity through journal articles and/or outputs which advance knowledge within the area of work
- Contribute to scholarship through interdisciplinary working with individuals and teams within, and external to, the wider university community
- Carry out other forms of scholarship including work associated with assessments (setting and marking papers and providing constructive feedback to students), administration, and participation in committee work
Other- To engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the School’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities. These activities are expected to contribute to the School and the enhancement of its regional and national profile
- To undergo personal and professional development that is appropriate to and which will enhance performance in the role of lecturer.
- To mentor colleagues with less experience and advise on personal development
- To participate in School administration and activities to promote the School and its work to the wider University and the outside world

Qualifications and Education- Postgraduate degree at MSc level (or near completion, at dissertation stage) or above in a related subject area and a registrable qualification in Occupational Therapy.
Grade 7: Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification or relevant experienceKnowledge, Skills and Experience- Evidence of an understanding of the importance of continuing professional development and evidence of a growing portfolio of scholarship.
- Teaching experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level (may include practice education).
Grade 7: Significant experience.
- Demonstrate specialist knowledge and an understanding of current advancements, disseminating this within occupational therapy.
Grade 7: Growing national reputation within occupational therapy.
- Ability to design, deliver and continuously develop modules across the School’s teaching programmes or provide evidence of undertaking similar skills in practice.
Pastoral, Communication and Team Working- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex and conceptual ideas clearly and confidently to others using high level skills and a range of media.
- The ability to provide appropriate pastoral support to students, appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances and to act as a personal tutor.
Grade 7: Ability to act as module leader and co-ordinate with others to ensure student needs and expectations are met.- Evidence of ability to participate in and develop both internal and external networks and utilise them to enhance the teaching and research activities of the School.
Desirable Criteria- Relevant teaching/other professional qualification(s).
