The College, Merthyr Tydfil is seeking to appoint a high calibre lecturer to teach A Level Law/with an ability to teach another subject, eg Business or Criminology at the college. This is an excellent opportunity to shape and deliver the provision of A Level and vocational studies in the college. The successful candidate will be part of the Humanities and Social Sciences Division which has an outstanding reputation for high quality teaching and learning. A DBS check and EWC registration are requirements of this post.Key responsibilities - Formal scheduled teaching of A Level Law. - Preparation of learning materials and student assignments. - Monitoring and assessment of students work, including the production of twice yearly progress reports to be distributed to parents. - Contributing to the delivery of the Welsh Baccalaureate provision across the college. - Attendance at annual parents’/carers’ evenings. - Managing student tutorials and providing guidance. - Management and administration of learning programmes including timely and accurate record keeping. - Supervision of student visit programmes. - Interviewing prospective students. - Participation in curriculum development in agreed subject areas. - Participation in marketing activities. - In staff development. - Adhering to college quality assurance systems. - Participating in staff appraisal system. - Adhering to college Health & Safety Policy. - Work within the college Financial Regulations and other policies and procedures in performing the role. - Work with the college and schools on outreach and transition activities. - Undertake other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the post and grade as directed by the Head of Division. Person specification To be able to undertake this role effectively you will need the key attributes and skills outlined below. When completing your application ensure you demonstrate how you meet these criteria. - Good oral and written communication skills. - Ability to lead teams effectively and set, achieve and maintain high performance standards. - Commitment to valuing learners and staff. - Have excellent classroom practice and high expectations of learners. - Good organisational and administrative skills. - Knowledge of A Level Law, Business and Criminology. - Good understanding of student support in a school or college environment. - Understanding of wider educational developments nationally and their implications for the college.- Recent and successful track record of delivering Law in a school or college environment. - Evidence of excellent classroom practice. - Evidence of continuous professional development - Experience of A Level/Vocational teaching and moderation. - Graduate or equivalent in a relevant subject area. - PGCE or Cert. Ed. - Awareness of equality and diversity in context of employment and learning.
