This is a full-time role, 37 hours per week over 4.5 days, Monday to Thursday 8am – 5pm with a 12.45pm finish on a Friday. What the role entails HMP Wormwood Scrubs has an incredible opportunity for a Learning Support practitioner to join their education team. As a Learning Support Practitioner, you will be responsible for providing support to the learners to help them to identify and access their education goals. You will be required to set targets to help them with their learning support plans and in addition, you will assist teachers with strategies to support inclusion across the curriculum. Learning support practitioners are responsible for all aspects of prisoners’ initial induction to education, including assessments in maths and English. The induction team fits within the wider department of four Hub Managers, Administration Manager, Local Education Manager and approximately 26 staff. What we need from you In order to be successful in the role, you will need: To have an understanding of how people learn and methods that can be used to enhance a learning experience To have a track record of working effectively with people presenting with challenging behaviour Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Good IT skills To hold or be willing to work towards level 2 qualifications in literacy, numeracy within an agreed timescale To hold or be willing to work towards a level 2 or 3 qualification for Learning Support Practitioners within an agreed timescale Have a track record of working effectively with people presenting challenging behaviour A bachelor’s degree in criminology or psychology is a plus but not essential Patience, empathy, and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of individuals. Previous experience in education, mentoring, or support roles is a plus A commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism Gain/hold and maintain a clean, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
