The University of Reading’s International Study & Language Institute is looking for a full-time English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Lecturer to teach English and Academic Skill on its Foundation Year (FHEQ Level 3) programmes.
You will be joining a team of Lecturers in range of subjects including Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Business, Economics, English & Academic Skills. Foundation Year are a busy and experienced team, and you will be expected to work effectively alongside others in a collaborative environment while adhering to all relevant University policies and procedures.
As the Foundation Year is a preparatory programme of study for undergraduate education, we are looking for someone who can create and deliver interesting and engaging lessons and materials which encourages the participation of a diverse cohort of students, can co-ordinate/convene modules and can design formative and summative assessment.
You will:
- Be able to work in the UK and have availability to work full-time on campus when required.
- Have an undergraduate degree and master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field and a teaching qualification e.g., DELTA, PGCHEP, PGCE.
- Have experience of teaching EAP and Academic Skills.
- Have excellent written and spoken English
- Have experience of delivering high quality teaching and academic support to a diverse cohort of Foundation Year students in UK higher education.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs and challenges of young adult learners e.g., from a range of diverse nationalities, cultures, educational backgrounds and academic abilities.
- Have experience of leading, convening and/or co-ordinating teaching and modules.
- Have excellent organisational skills and an ability to work with others as well as autonomously to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Have experience of working with MS Office Suites and Virtual Learning Environments e.g., Blackboard, Moodle.
- Be reliable, flexible, and responsible.
- Be willing to actively participate in Foundation Year promotional and student recruitment activities including Open Days and applicant engagement events.
- Be willing to participate, organise and engage with co-curricular and extra-curricular activities e.g., student away days.
Engage with continued professional development activities.
