We have built an outstanding reputation for delivering high-quality apprenticeship programmes, helping individuals and businesses thrive. Our clients include prestigious organisations such as the Ministry of Defence, a number of the largest corporate organisations, museums, universities, NHS, sea ports and airports, logistics hubs, and high-end retail environments.

At Mercury, we are dedicated to empowering both our apprentices and their employers, offering expert guidance and support to help them succeed. If you're passionate about passing on your sector expertise and shaping the next generation of security professionals, this is the perfect opportunity to join our team.

What is an Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a work-based learning programme that combines on-the-job training with academic learning, allowing apprentices to gain practical experience and formal qualifications simultaneously. Our apprenticeships in the security sector help individuals progress from security officers to senior security management roles, with a focus on operational skills, leadership, and regulatory knowledge.

At Mercury Training, we ensure our apprentices receive the support they need to excel in their careers, helping them to acquire skills that are directly relevant to their job roles while advancing their career development in the security sector.

A Typical Day in the Life of a Security Skills Coach:

As a Security Skills Coach, you will play a key role in guiding and mentoring apprentices as they progress through their learning journey. A typical day includes:

Delivering mainly one-to-one (occasionally group) training and assessment for apprentices in the security sector. This includes on-line delivery as well as on-site training where the candidates work.

Visiting apprentices at their workplace every 4 weeks to assess progress and provide on-site coaching, helping them meet key milestones.

Delivery of English and Maths functional skills to apprentices that need upskilling

Developing and delivering training sessions focused on real-world skills and scenarios, preparing apprentices for senior roles in security management.

Providing feedback and support, ensuring apprentices meet their academic and practical goals, while also offering career guidance.

Planning your schedule around your apprentices’ needs, ensuring regular check-ins and structured learning pathways.

Workloads and Flexibility at Mercury: A Key Benefit

At Mercury, we offer a unique advantage with our lower apprentice-to-coach ratio compared to most apprenticeship providers in England. This ensures you’ll have a more manageable caseload, allowing you to dedicate quality time to each apprentice without overwhelming workloads.

We are committed to regularly reviewing caseloads to support your work-life balance and ensure you have ample time for family, friends, and personal well-being. While the role may involve working across various shifts—days, evenings, nights, and weekends—due to the 24/7 nature of the security industry, you’ll benefit from the flexibility to manage your own schedule.

With about 50% of your time spent traveling to support apprentices, we give you the autonomy to plan your work in a way that suits you. Plus, you’ll always have strong backing from the management team and your fellow Skills Coaches, fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment.

What We Offer:

Very competitive pay with regular reviews

34 days paid holiday (26 days holidays plus 8 bank holidays)

Christmas / New year shutdown each year to be with family/friends

Staff perks and benefits, including regular fully funded team events

Company pension scheme

Full home office setup: Laptop, mobile phone, desk, chair, monitors, etc.

Comprehensive support from our business support manager and colleagues

Development to higher levels of teacher training including assessor and internal verifier qualifications

Apprenticeship opportunity for your own development

Life insurance

24/7 on-line doctor access for you and your family

Travel expenses: £0.45 per mile

Trains, hotels and meals are fully funded by Mercury

Role and Duties:

Delivering mainly one-to-one (occasionally group) training and assessment for apprentices in the security sector.
