We are seeking outstanding researchers and educators to join the Optical and Semiconductor Devices (OSD) Group within the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London. We welcome applicants with expertise in a wide range of devices and systems for diverse applications.
The OSD Group, currently comprising 8 members of academic staff and about 30 PhD students and postdoctoral staff, offers innovative research opportunities where you can develop your own research in areas such as optical, electrical, and magnetic devices, utilizing both organic and inorganic materials. Our focus spans from fundamental discoveries to innovative applications. You will work alongside a supportive team with expertise in cutting-edge fields such as sensors and systems for Mars exploration and for healthcare, quantum computing devices, micro-power storage and generation, and dynamic thermoelectrics for aerospace applications. You will have access to state-of-the-art micro-fabrication and characterization facilities to support your research.

What you would be doing
Depending on the level of appointment we are looking for:
- A candidate at a junior level with a vision to build up a research portfolio, and to establish yourself as an internationally leading researcher. At a senior level, you will be an established researcher of international standing who will diversify the groups research portfolio, contribute substantially to research income and impact, and provide leadership and mentoring to junior colleagues.
- Candidates who can effectively supervise PhD students and post-doctoral researchers and mentor their career development.
- Candidates able to collaborate with colleagues within EEE and in other departments at Imperial, and externally, on research and education.
- Candidates with ability and drive to educate and innovate on education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Candidates who adhere to the College values.
What we are looking for
- A PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or another appropriate discipline.
The level at which the following points will be evaluated depends on the level of appointment.
- An outstanding academic record, which includes a portfolio of research publications and other outputs. Senior appointments should evidence successful grant income and leadership in their scientific area.
- A compelling scientific vision and a developing international reputation (junior level). A well-established international reputation is expected at the senior level.
- The ability to develop skills in leadership, motivation, development, and management (junior level). For the senior level evidence of experience in these areas.
- The desire to help set and deliver the vision and strategic goals of the research group, Department and College.
