About the role
Key details:
- Working week: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, Term-time only + 5 days
- Wage: £7 per hour

- Apprenticeship Standard: Level 3 Teaching Assistant
- Duration: 16 months
Overview of the role:
We are seeking an apprentice to provide learning and wellbeing support for pupils with a range of significant SEND needs, recognising and responding to individual needs and supporting students to achieve top 10% outcomes in a remarkable learning environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish constructive and positive relationships with pupils
- Be willing to work at any of the special school sites in the Trust
- Support with the delivery of agreed learning and wellbeing activities/programmes appropriate to pupil’s needs, to facilitate remarkable progress both in and out of the classroom including the hydrotherapy pool
- Support pupils with access to learning and activities, providing guidance and ensuring physical, social, emotional and intellectual development
- Support pupils with emotional regulation (including being willing to undertake Team Teach training)
- Support with the implementation of Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs) and/or Personal Care Programme, including meeting hygiene, therapy and health needs
- Physically assist a pupil as required in line with Trust policies and procedures
- Support with administering tests and invigilating exams
- Provide accurate and constructive feedback to the teacher and pupil to support progress
- Support with setting challenging expectations whilst promoting self-esteem and encouraging pupils to act independently as appropriate as well as interacting with pupils, engaging in activities led by the teacher
- Support with monitoring pupil progress, recording pupil responses against learning objectives
- Support with the preparation, maintenance and use of specialist resources to meet relevant learning and welfare needs
- Promote positive values, attitudes, and behaviour, maintaining a purposeful and supportive learning environment
- Deal promptly with incidents and concerns, reporting where appropriate in line with school policy
- Promote and reinforce the inclusion, acceptance and integration of all pupils
- Participate in and organise extracurricular /enrichment activities, such as outings, social activities, and sporting events to enhance learning and engagement
- Support with the supervision and welfare of pupils, contributing to effective behaviour management in school
- Provide administrative and organisational support for the teacher / department
- Maintain accurate records using relevant systems in line with policy and records management procedures
- Attend meetings and undertake duties as required in line with Trust / school calendar, sharing expertise and supporting others
- Contribute to the development of systems and procedures in the department, support the life of the school and work within the overall aims and objectives of the school
Apprenticeship Summary:
- You will work towards your Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification across a total duration of 16 months!

Knowledge and Experience Required:
- Knowledge and understanding of child development and teaching strategies
- Experience of providing learning or wellbeing support for children
- Evidence of relevant CPD activities (desired)
- First aid qualification or willing to work towards (desired)
- Driving license and ability to drive between sites (desired)
- Experience supporting in a special school (desired)
Qualifications Required:
- Minimum of five GCSE (A-C/ 4+) including English and Maths or equivalent e.g., Adult Literacy/Numeracy at level 2
Apprenticeship Overview
During this teaching assistant apprenticeship you will promote self-belief, social inclusion and high self-esteem which will play an integral part to pupils’ wellbeing. You will become an essential part in the learning environment for the classroom teacher and pupils. Working to ensure pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing and safe environment. It is an active role supporting the learner to access the curriculum and expand their knowledge. TAs play a crucial role in supporting teachers and pupils. Your work can have a significant impact on the children's learning experiences, helping them to succeed academically and personally.
- Milestone 1. Keeping children safe in Education – (KCSIE Policy, child protection, safeguarding awareness, serious case reviews, health, safety and wellbeing legislation)
- Milestone 2. Professional Standards and Personal Accountability – (Relationships and Role Modelling, CPD and Personal development)
- Milestone 3. Child Development and Behaviours – (Child Development Practitioners, stages of development, Behaviour Management).
- Milestone 4. Curriculum and Technology – (School ICT Systems, using technology, National Curriculum key Stages)
- Milestone 5. Learning and Assessment Strategies – (Assessment procedures, feedback techniques, SEND Strategies and partnership working)
