About ARU
ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. ARU holds a Gold award for the quality of its education, awarded through the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
ARU’s research institutes and four faculties bridge scientific, technical and creative fields. We deliver impactful research which tackles pressing issues and makes a real difference to our communities. Our academic excellence has been recognised by the UK’s Higher Education funding bodies, with 16 of our research areas assessed as world leading. We are the largest provider of Nursing, Midwifery, Health and Social Care students in the East of England, and we are also among the UK’s leading universities for degree apprenticeship provision, working with hundreds of employers across the UK.
About The Role
The role involves assisting the research team in writing research bids, carrying out literature reviews, collecting and analysing initial pilot data, consulting with stakeholders and writing research papers. The postholder will work on developing projects aiming to understand and improve the social life and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities (learning disabilities). The projects address 2 issues concerning the social inclusion of this group: 1) the use of digital technologies (barriers, risks, enablers and support), and 2) levels and forms of social interaction in people with severe and profound learning disabilities. The research team consists of Professor Mick Finlay (Anglia Ruskin University), Dr Lewis Goodings (Anglia Ruskin University), Dr Emma Kaminskiy (Anglia Ruskin University) and Dr Clare Nicholson (St Mary’s University).
With a minimum of a degree plus PhD (or pending), we are looking for a person experienced in research methods in Psychology or Social Sciences, who has a positive, proactive approach to work, excellent attention to detail, good team-working skills and an enthusiasm for improving the lives of people with learning disabilities.
Informal enquiries can be made to Mick Finaly, Professor of Social and Applied Psychology at Mick.Finlay@aru.ac.uk or Lewis Goodings, Senior Lecturer at Lewis.Goodings@aru.ac.uk .
