As the Functional Skills Curriculum Manager, you will be responsible for developing, overseeing and enhancing the Functional Skills curriculum at HMP Millsike.
HMP Millsike is a brand new prison based in Full Sutton, opening in Spring 2025. The Curriculum Manager will join the team Winter 2024 to lead on development and mobilisation ready for go live in Spring.
This role is pivotal in ensuring the curriculum is of high quality, relevant, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of learners. The manager will lead curriculum development, maintain rigorous quality assurance processes, and provide leadership and support to a team of tutors.
The role also involves managing resources, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering stakeholder engagement. The management team has responsibility for day-to-day operation of Education Department. This includes and relates specifically to management of learners, particularly their induction and starting points, allocation to classes and conduct within the department.
The role:
- Curriculum Development: Design and develop a comprehensive functional skills curriculum tailored to the prison education environment, covering English, mathematics, and ICT at various levels. Ensure the curriculum is engaging, relevant, and accessible to learners with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum and make necessary adjustments. Monitor and evaluate functional skills program delivery, using data, deep dives, learning walks and observations of teaching and learning, and feedback to drive continuous improvement. To lead on any necessary interventions to swiftly stop poor performance and secure rapid improvement within the FS curriculum. To ensure that the department’s overall effectiveness, and particularly the quality of education, are of a consistently high quality that secures extraordinary and excellent outcomes for all learners.
- Team Leadership: Lead, support, and mentor a team of functional skills tutors, providing guidance, training, and professional development opportunities. Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
- Performance Monitoring: Analyse data related to learner progress, retention, and achievement. Use this data to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
- Resource Management: Oversee the development and procurement of teaching materials and resources. Ensure that all resources are utilised effectively and efficiently and are appropriate for use within the prison context.
What We're Looking For:
- A relevant degree and/or professional qualification and a teaching qualification.
- A commitment to the Reduction of Re-Offending through Education and Skills.
- The ability to identify and implement continuous improvements to the curriculum in line with the needs and demands of learners and employers.
- Successful experience of managing curriculum development and change, quality, systems, processes and the performance of teaching staff in ways which have improved learner outcomes.
