The role will apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods and will be able to articulate instructional end goals and work with team members and experts to create content that matches. The Learning Designer will serve as a source of pedagogical knowledge for the Content Team, advising on media assets, content hierarchy and structure, and exercises or activities that enhance the learning process.<br/><br/>The Learning Designer will play an integral role in the evolution of the Content Team, as the business grows and adapts to new and changing business requirements. Creativity and experience in learning design are key for success in this role. Learning Designers are fluent in pedagogy and methodology, and are skilled at breaking down complex concepts into easily understood pieces, and in communicating plans to the build team.<br/><br/>This team member will work closely with colleagues throughout the Content Team to understand course and project requirements, translate those needs into delivery solutions, and then work closely with the build team to develop online learning experiences that are aligned to FutureLearn's purpose of transforming access to education.<br/><br/><strong>What does success look like?<br/><br/></strong><ul> <li>Works with pre-existing content from Partners to be redesigned for the FutureLearn platform, following our pedagogical and editorial style </li> <li>Creates storyboards and works with course outlines and templates to pass onto build teams to upload (Using Word or Excel) </li> <li>Facilitates the learning design process with academic staff, content development teams, external clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders</li> <li>Collaborates with Partners, Senior Learning Designer, Learning Technologists and the Build Team, to design and create compelling online learning materials</li> <li>Collaborates with, and supports, other Learning Designers employed by FutureLearn or working for Partners and clients</li> <li>Provides consultancy and induction training to new Partners to build their online education skills and capabilities (including MOOCs, professional qualification programs and online degrees)</li> <li>Represents FutureLearn at business development meetings (face to face, or remote) with prospective Partners and clients</li> <li>Audits selected courses during quality assurance and acts as liaison between the Content and Learning team and Clients</li> <li>Ensures courses are designed according to FutureLearn's published quality criteria</li> <li>Develops efficient and productive learning design processes and workflows aligned to FutureLearn's social learning pedagogy</li> <li>Helps analyse the performance of past courses and recommends areas of improvement</li> <li>Actively keeps abreast of research across the FutureLearn partnership and the wider educational technology sector.
