It brings together three existing areas: King’s Foundations, Summer Programmes, and King’s Language Centre. This brings together international pathway provision, pre sessional programmes, pre-UG summer courses, UG summer modules, UG language modules, bespoke language programmes for the community and our partners and academic skills provision for all King’s students. Each of these areas are well established, respected and recognised within and beyond the King’s community. The Centre has significant expertise in International Education and makes a significant contribution to the rich and diverse make-up of the King’s student body. ****About King’s Foundations King’s Foundations is a leading centre for English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and pathway education across the HE sector, accredited by the British Council. As one of the largest providers of pathway education, we welcome over 2,500 students each year across our King’s International Foundation Programmes and our range of Pre-sessional Programmes. King’s Foundations is also responsible for the delivery of Academic Skills support across the university providing in person, online, and asynchronous programmes for students studying on all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at King’s. In addition, we offer an increasing number of short courses in English language learning and teaching. Our mission is to support a diverse group of learners to achieve their potential at King’s, supporting students to become independent and inquisitive learners. King’s Foundations is home to approximately 80 permanent staff, growing to around 150 during our busy summer months. About the role King’s Foundations is looking for a professional to join our Academic Skills team as a Lecturer in EAP Education and Integrated Academic Skills Coordinator. King’s Foundations is a department within the Centre for International Education and Languages (CIEL) which provides high-quality international pathway, academic skills, and English language preparation courses for King’s students. Our mission is to enable and empower students to be the best they can be as part of a world-leading university. Valuing diversity, inclusivity, and cultural competency, we provide an outstanding student experience that integrates academic excellence with comprehensive support. We are a team of around 115 colleagues (increasing to over 150 in the summer months) committed to achieving this mission. The department has an annual turnover of around £30 million. This newly created post within the Academic Skills team at King’s College London is designed to support the integration of academic literacy and provision within the faculty. We are currently developing our academic skills provision across King’s and are seeking an expert in EAP and Learning Development. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying needs, designing, developing, and delivering provision to address those needs. They will have a strong pedagogical background in academic skills provision, both in person and online. Key Responsibilities: Review existing integrated support and lead on work to improve and further integrate the provision available. Identify needs and design, develop, and deliver academic skills provision. Create new partnerships and work closely with key stakeholders in King’s Foundations and across the college. This role will be joining King’s Foundations at an exciting time as we support our teaching staff to transfer over to Academic Education Pathway (AEP) contracts. The position is offered on an AEP contract, reflecting the nature of the role and providing a platform for excellence. The role will be subject to a probationary period of 3 years, in line with other academic roles at the College. This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract About you To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria Relevant postgraduate degree (e.g. MA in Education/Educational Management/ TESOL/Applied Linguistics/ or other relevant area). Relevant Level 7 teaching qualification (e.g. Cambridge DELTA, PGCE). Knowledge of the academic literacy needs of students in HE both in-person and online including knowledge or interest in supporting students with effective use of Generative AI tools Experience of effectively managing the needs analysis, design, development and delivery of EAP, academic literacy and academic skills provision alongside or integrated into UG and PG programmes of study. Demonstrated ability to lead a small team and take an active role in departmental line management activities. Demonstrated commitment to promoting and implementing the values of equality, diversity, and inclusion in education. Evidence of successfully collaborating with a range of stakeholders, including academics, professional services staff and the student body, to deliver engaging and inclusive academic skills provision. Fellowship of HEA or willing to work towards it and secure within 3 years.
