The purpose of the role is to be responsible for flexible and proactive delivery of an agreed teaching programme in Health and Social Care and other related areas. In addition to teaching, to undertake a range of administrative and developmental duties that contributes to improving standards and achievements and the learner experience. KEY ROLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES To teach across a range of programmes in Health and Social Care associated areas. To develop the curriculum in Health and Social Care and associated areas. To take an active part in the recruitment of learners, providing appropriate advice and guidance. To deliver high quality teaching and learning by: - providing students with a planned learning and assessment experience; effectively managing and monitoring the learning process; proving regular assessment opportunities; providing timely and constructive feedback; and guiding and supporting learners to achieve their learning goals. To support, and where appropriate, contextualise and/or ‘signpost’ English and maths in the curriculum. To actively develop and use new technology in teaching, learning and assessment. To provide assignment and assessment material appropriate to each specific programme. To produce schemes of work, lesson plans, individual learning plans and assessment schedules etc. appropriate to the curriculum area. To evaluate and assess (formative and summative) the work of learners in relation to the curriculum criteria and provide timely constructive and helpful learner feedback. To attend curriculum meetings and to contribute to the continual quality improvement mechanisms (e.g. contribute to maintenance of course files, timely updating of e-ILPs on ProMonitor). To keep accurate and effective systems of administration which support the student and College needs, including management and maintenance of learner ILPs, progress and performance records. Where appropriate, liaison with other departments (e.g. Exams and MIS). To ensure safe working practices across the programme area. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE The appointment is subject to the Conditions of Service for Academic Staff. The work pattern of a Lecturer is not necessarily linked to the traditional academic year. SALARY The salary range for this post is from £24,118 to £38,244 per annum pro rata. Starting salary will be dependent upon experience and qualifications. Once you have successfully passed your probationary period, your salary will increase within the salary band on an annual incremental basis, until you reach the top of the salary scale. Increments are in August. TEACHING QUALIFICATION Applicants are required to hold an appropriate teaching qualification or be willing to undertake and gain the Certificate in Education and Training within 2 years of their appointment. Successful applicants will be required to attend the course on-site as the College delivers the course in-house. Please note– whilst obtaining a teaching qualification is a contractual requirement, the College reviews its CPD budget on an annual basis regarding availability of funds, and cannot therefore guarantee that newly appointed staff will receive either part or full funding for the course fees. However, student loan facilities are available. MATHS AND ENGLISH All staff are required to have a minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths. If you are not already in receipt of one or both of these qualifications, you will be expected to obtain it (them) during your employment at the College. SAFEGUARDING The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All newly appointed staff will be required to undertake safeguarding training following their appointment. VALIDATION OF QUALIFICATIONS The College will undertake qualification validation by writing to the appropriate educational institute. Only those qualifications which are essential for the post will be followed up. HOURS OF WORK The hours of work will be based on 14.8 hours per week, of this 10 hour per week will be delivery. Actual hours of work to be agreed with the manager. ANNUAL LEAVE The post carries 37 annual leave days with an additional eight public bank holidays plus a further five concessionary days as ‘leave to be taken at the Principal’s discretion’. Annual leave will be pro rata if part time. Please note that only in exceptional circumstances, with your Directors permission, will staff be able to take more than 3 consecutive weeks of leave in any leave year. PENSION SCHEME The College operates an occupational pension scheme, namely the ‘Teachers Pensions’. PROBATIONARY PERIOD All newly appointed staff have to serve a 9-month probationary period. During the probationary period you will have to complete the Corporate staff induction, a Teaching and Learning Induction session if you deliver learning and additional mandatory courses on: Equality & Diversity session, Keeping Children safe in Education, Safeguarding Training session, Prevent, GDPR, Cyber Security and Health & Safety training session. Failure to complete these will prevent you from successfully completing your probation. REFERENCES All candidates must have 2 satisfactory references.
