Track renewals on the London Underground often take place during extremely tight time windows, either in the overnight maintenance period, between the last and first trains (typically 1am to 5pm) or during planned possessions where sections of the network are completely closed for a longer period of time such as a weekend.

Entry Requirements
- You should already hold or be working towards a minimum of 2 GCSE's A*-C/ grade 4 or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English Language.
- You are not eligible for this scheme if you currently hold or are working towards a qualification at the same or higher Level in a related subject or have already
studied content from the qualification for this scheme
- Please note that you will be required to provide original certificates and/or predicted grades as proof for your eligibility checks.
- You must be 18 years of age by 8 th September 2025 to be eligible for this scheme.

Job Overview
Our Construction Management Team focus on the assets that form the foundation of our transport system planning the renewal of life expired asset. The role of a London Underground engineering apprentice is critical to ensuring the ongoing performance and safety of our tube network. The technological advancements we are seeing in our trains and operating infrastructure mean that we need to adapt the way we maintain our assets to keep them operating at peak performance. You'll be at the forefront of these developments whilst also keeping a watchful eye on our legacy assets across the network.
As a Track Renewals Construction Management Apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience working across our iconic network, learning from highly skilled professionals. You’ll discover what it takes to maintain and renew one of the most vital assets in the city— our track infrastructure.
With over 402km of track carrying hundreds of trains every day, 364 days a year, London Underground depends on a reliable and well-maintained system. Through regular placements, you’ll work as part of a dedicated team under expert supervision, learning essential skills in track maintenance, fault repair, and renewals.

What will I be doing?

As an apprentice, your 3-year development programme will be made up of up to 4 or 5 placement rotations. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for your successful career. We also understand that everyone's career is different, so every apprentice's journey is unique. Your Roles And Responsibilities Will Include To
- Ensure that the required standard of quality is achieved and maintained at all times.
- Assist with works construction planning expertise, review and challenge proposed construction methodologies developed by internal teams or by suppliers, propose innovative solutions to solve complex construction challenges.
- Assist with the process that works construction schedules and methodologies integrate with interfacing projects.
- Assist with the risk management process. and take responsibility for construction- related activities.
Where can this career take me?
Upon successful completion of this scheme, you could roll-off into a Construction Support Manager Role where you will support the planning, delivery, and management of track projects.
You'll also have opportunities to complete additional training courses. These will vary to support your continuous development.
What training and support will I get?
You will be working towards a Level 3 qualification in Rail Engineering Technician
Typically, you will be required to attend College to complete the Knowledge part of your apprenticeship, and this is typically Block Release in 2 to 4-week blocks.
Whilst on the scheme, we'll support your technical development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences and placements. We'll also support your professional development through a combination of classroom-led training courses, online training courses, mentoring opportunities and structured networking opportunities. You will receive one-to-one support throughout the programme from your scheme sponsor and your Line Manager. You'll also be connected to a 'buddy' who will be a more experienced apprentice from the scheme.

Important Information
Annual Leave is pre-arranged to ensure timely completion of your apprenticeship. These are typically, two-week Easter break, two-week summer break, one week October and one week during the Christmas period, plus Public Holidays.
This apprenticeship will predominantly consist of day shifts when on placement but will also occasionally include night and weekend shifts.
This role will include manual activity including heavy lifting and pushing equipment.

Please pay close attention to emails and deadlines provided noting you have I week to complete assessments and we cannot re-issue these tests.
Assessment centres for apprenticeship roles will take place from February-April, please note that many roles only have I assessment day and we are unable to guarantee additional dates. We are conducting assessment centres in person and virtually (role dependent).
