DN Colleges Group is seeking a dedicated and skilled Technician Instructor (Wood Machinist) to join our Construction faculty. This role is pivotal in supporting our mission to place learners at the heart of everything we do, ensuring their success and enhancing their learning experience.
Scope And Purpose Of The Role
As a Technician Instructor, you will support curriculum staff by supervising learners in workshops, preparing and machining timber, and setting up woodworking machines. You will also provide guidance to learners, assist with curriculum development, and contribute to the overall quality assurance and marketing efforts of the department.
Essential Criteria- Education and Qualifications: Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject.
- Work Experience: Recent experience in the Construction Industry, particularly in brick, plaster, and paint environments.
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to receive and distribute materials, tools, and equipment.
- Competence in routine and planned maintenance of equipment.
- Proficiency in planning and preparing teaching resources.
- Capability to conduct safety inspections.
- Personal Qualities:
- Effective communication skills with staff and learners.
- Willingness to acquire new skills relevant to the post.
- Physical ability to lift equipment and materials.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Supervise, guide and assess learners in workshops and practical teaching areas.
- Prepare and machine rough sawn timber for curriculum needs.
- Set up and operate woodworking machines such as rip saws, crosscut saws, and surface planers ensuring safety inspections are completed and reports are produced.
- Undertake planning, preparation, and assessment to meet external body requirements.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to quality assurance processes.
- Support department marketing efforts, including attending open evenings and school visits.

The LET’s Bloom Programme aims to connect our experienced and qualified teachers to share best practice and support continued risk-taking as we continue to add depth to our teaching craft. Teachers volunteer on this one year programme, working closely with the Learning Enhancement Team, capturing their experimentation in a journal.
