(English will be offered from Entry level to Level 2) As an English Tutor, you will engage prison-based students with creative classes and resources. Many of the students have diverse needs and learning abilities and often have had negative experiences with education. As a successful English Teacher, you will inspire them and provide a positive learning experience. This role may involve outreach work outside of the main classroom setting. You will connect with students professionally, supporting them in their learning, enabling them to achieve success through qualifications, and developing confidence and softer skills applicable to employment and other areas of education. You will also have the opportunity to create your own scheme of work and session plans, where you will be given time to create them, working alongside the advanced practitioner for advice on quality. We seek an individual who can communicate well with students to inspire and motivate them. The average class consists of 12 students, supported by a student mentor and inclusion practitioners. Sessions are approximately 3 hours long, and your lessons will need to be adaptable, innovative, and imaginative. The prison operates an offence neutral approach to rehabilitation and is privately operated by Serco. HMP Fosse Way’s focus is firmly fixed on reducing reoffending and preventing future victims of crime by preparing offenders for their release through accredited intervention programmes, skill and vocational-based training and education, in a pro-social environment. Courses at HMP Fosse Way include Maths, English, IT, Bricklaying, Carpentry, Fork-Lift, Barbering, Business Mentoring, and much more. The education delivery hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am – 11.15am, 1:30pm – 4:15pm, with staff working on-site 8:10am – 4:40pm each day.
