City of York Council’s York Learning team is seeking to appoint an experienced ESOL tutor to work within a dynamic team, providing an engaging and relevant programme of courses to a very diverse learner group.
You should be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the needs of ESOL learners who are living and working in York and the surrounding area, and have the ability to lead the planning and delivery of courses at levels ranging from Pre-Entry up to Level 2, as well as providing curriculum expertise for higher level learners accessing our wider offer.
A good proportion of the role will involve assessment of and delivery to learners at different levels but you will also lead in support, training and co-ordination of tutors, support workers and volunteers, building an engaging and relevant resource bank, co-ordinating our support with the wider York Learning team and partner agencies, and contributing to York Learning’s general programme of quality improvement and development.
Strong inter-personal skills are essential to this post as well as excellent recording and administration skills to meet specific funding, exam board, and programme requirements.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express him/herself spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.

Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
