Our mission is to inspire students to achieve their full potential and prepare them for successful futures. We are investing in our Maths and English team and are looking to appoint an inspirational GCSE English teacher to join our dynamic team.</div> <p/> <div>Many of our students come to college having struggled with English and maths in school and unable to secure a Grade 4 pass in Year 11 as a result – we recognise the importance of these key skills and our mission is to ensure they can leave college with both their vocational qualifications and essential English and maths, ready and able to progress into their career of choice. Our English and maths faculty consists of highly skilled practitioners who are passionate about changing young peoples’ experiences of their subjects, finding ways to engage with them and bring the curriculum to life in ways that make sense to our students, so that they can achieve well and progress into work or continued education. If being part of this exceptional team interests you, whether you are an experienced English or maths teacher, a recent graduate or an industry professional looking to start their career in teaching, we want to hear from you.</div> <p/> <div>Teaching English in college differs from teaching them in a school; for a start, there is no lunchtime supervision, tutor groups or pastoral support to worry about as our structure ensures there are other roles that provide this support to students. Across the team we share resources too, so the workload for everyone is reduced. We teach mainly GCSEs, although Functional Skills is used for some learners, depending on their chosen industry, and although most students have studied to GCSE level before, they may have achieved anywhere from a Grade 1 to a Grade 3, so finding ways to quickly assess knowledge and address gaps in learning is essential.</div> <p/> <div>Not yet a teacher?</div> <div> While possessing a teaching qualification is an advantage, the college offers training opportunities and we are committed to supporting you on your path to becoming a qualified teacher, providing the necessary assistance along the way. If you are considering a career change, you can find out more about teaching in the Further Education sector here.</div><br/> <div/> <div> Although a teaching qualification is an advantage, training opportunities exist within the College and we can support you in gaining your Award in Education and Training Level 3 Qualification (AET), within your first year of joining the college.</div><br/> <div/> <div> In return, Abingdon & Witney College offer excellent benefits to our employees including generous pension and holiday schemes (with potential Christmas closure days), continued professional development, flexible working options, corporate gym membership, cycle/tech scheme and much more.</div><br/> <div/> <div><b> Closing date: 20</b><b>th</b><b> October 2024 (Midnight)</b></div><br/> <div/> <ul><li><i>Abingdon and Witney College reserve the right to close all applications before posted closing date</i></li></ul><br/> <div/> <div><i> AWC values diversity and encourages applications from all sections of the community. We are committed to safeguarding and expect all our employees and volunteers to share this commitment. We are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and all appointments are subject to satisfactory clearances including enhanced DBS checks.</i></div><br/> <div/> <div><i> Abingdon and Witney College are committed to safer recruitment practices. In addition to our pre-employment checks, we will conduct an online search. This includes checking Google main results feed as well as the ‘News’ and ‘Images’ tab. We will be checking for any publicly available information that suggests the applicant may not be suitable to work with children or young/vulnerable people or content that could potentially damage Abingdon and Witney College’s reputation. This may include inappropriate posts, comments or images displaying evidence of offensive or inappropriate behaviour, jokes or language, discriminatory comments, inappropriate photos, drug or alcohol misuse.</i></div></div> <div><div><div>English Lecturer</div></div></div></div><p/></body></html>
